How do I setup compulsory Card Details for Reservations?

Card Tokenization

Tapa Reservations uses card tokenization to securely hold a customer’s credit/debit card number via our PCI-compliant Stripe gateway. By requiring Card Details for Reservations it helps ensure that customers are committed to their reservation, reducing the likelihood of late cancellations and no-shows. Card Details can be set against a Service or can be triggered by Rules within a Service.


Getting Started

Before setting up card tokenization you will need to set up Stripe following this guide.


Require Card Details

This allows a restaurant to set whether card details are required based on a minimum number of covers. This can ensure that reservations for larger capacity tables will always be honored, reducing the likelihood of no-shows. This can be set for only certain time profiles for example busier times.

  1. After signing in to the Back Office select >Settings > Tables and then select Services and a list of the current services are displayed.

  2. To edit the settings of a Service click the ‘Edit’ (pencil icon) beside the required Service.

  3. Navigate to the Rules section.

  4. To create a new Rule select the +Add Rule button.

  5. Select Enabled so that this rule will apply

  6. Enter the Description for this rule

  1. Choose Require Card from the Type drop down menu.

  2. Enter the Trigger Covers above which Card Details are required.

Note: To set compulsory card details for all reservations set Trigger Covers as 1.

  1. Choose a Time Profile when this rule applies.

  2. If a reservation has stored card details and is canceled as a no show or the guest cancels within the cancellation time the card will be charged the amount below for either the complete reservation or for each guest. To charge by guest select Per Cover

  3. Enter the Amount that the guests card will be charged if a no show or canceled.

  4. After adding the Rules select the ‘Save’ button to save the Service.

  5. Select ‘Update Tills’ from the main screen and ‘Send Changes’ to apply the Rules to the reservations widget.

Note: The widget browser must be refreshed to view the changes. Please allow up to two minutes for any changes to apply.
